Round One
Wallace Hall Academy recently hosted the Rotary Club of Thornhill and District heat of the Rotary Young Chef of the Year 2013 competition. This year three young budding chefs from Wallace Hall battled it out in the heat of the kitchen to secure a place in the Dumfries and Galloway area final to be held in December. Once again in the unenviable position of judging the competition was in the hands of Chef Will Pottinger of the Buccleuch and and Queensberry Arms Hotel in Thornhill. In a closely fought competition, a very talented S5 student Ailsa Morton triumphed on the day.
Ed Hunter, Convenor of the Thornhill Clubs programmes for young people said I am most grateful to Miss Wilson of Wallace Hall for hosting the event and to Rotarian Joan Neilson who arranged the event on behalf of the Thornhill Club. We all wish Ailsa every success in the next round.

Round Two at the Area Competition, Kirkcudbright.8th December 2013
Ailsa won the next round held at Kirkcudbright with a little Salmon and Tomato number that woed the judges, Chris Walker from the Selkirk Arms Kirkcudbright and Martin Avey from Del Amitri in Annan . Praise indeed from such reknowned local chefs. The other schools participating were Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbright, Lockerbie, and Newton Stewart .
We would like to thank most sincerely Anne Wilson the Home Economics teacher from Wallace Hall who accompanied Ailsa to Kirkcudbright and has been a great help to us in running the early stages of this competetion.
We hope that Ailsa will now go on to represent Thornhill & District and the whole SW Area at the District Final in Livingston in Feb.
