Thornhill and District Rotary Club's annual Duck Race was held recently in the grounds of Friars Carse Hotel. The family day out was enjoyed by over 200 race-goers. Entertainment on the day was provided by the Corberry Park Pipers and a talented group of young jazz musicians from Dumfries. As well as the usual side shows, an excellent hog roast was laid on by Friars Carse. 500 ducks were released into the river Nith, with first past the post being a duck purchased by Leeds man Bill Jones who owns a holiday cottage near Closeburn.
