Incoming president for the 99th year of the Rotary Club of Rhyl, John Dicks, was handed his badge of office by outgoing President Tony Thomas at a meeting at the Bod Erw in St Asaph on Thursday 27th June 2024.
Tony thanked the club for their great support during his year of office, raising funds for many worthwhile causes. Amongst his nominated charities were Blossom and Bloom and Rhyl Young Carers. A substantial sum was raised for the former and together with a donation from Denbighshire Foyer, arranged by Rotarian Howard Ferdinando, the latter benefitted from Christmas Vouchers and Easter eggs. Easter eggs were also donated to two Food Banks in Rhyl.
He also thanked Sainsburys, Morrisons, Asda and St Asaph Co-op for allowing the club to have Christmas collections at their stores, raising substantial amounts for charitable causes.
Thanks were also offered to Rotarian Tracey Phillips for the many and varied events organised by her throughout his year of office, including amongst other successful things, Bingo Nights, Dragon Boat Races (we came second overall!) Bowls Competitions and 'Round the World' meals to name just a few.
After seventeen years service as club secretary, Gordon Marshall passed the reins to John Carson in order to prepare for his role as President for our Centenary year as a club - the oldest in North Wales. A fitting tribute to Gordon as a reward for his years of service.
Gareth Wynne Jones was inducted as Junior Vice President and Professor Chris Smith took over as the new treasurer from Peter McKenzie.
The evening concluded with a rousing rendition of 'Happy Birthday' for Sharon Webster who was celebrating her (undisclosed) birthday the same day.
