The historic symbolism underpinning the true and deep message of Christmas was effectively invoked by guest speaker Reverend Andy Grimwood, Vicar of Rhyl, in a seasonal address to a packed gathering of members, wives, partners and guests at Faenol Fawr. Introducing the speaker, club treasurer John Williams said it was a great pleasure to welcome the latest in a line of past Rhyl Vicars who had delivered this annual message at the club’s traditional Christmas dinner. Reverend Grimwood used modern equivalents to demonstrate the enduring significance to Christians of the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh brought by the Three Wise Men to acclaim the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Each bore a powerful and changeless representation of what this momentous event would mean for all mankind. The warm thanks of the club were expressed by President Keith Roberts, who had earlier also thanked the girls’ choir of St Bridget’s School for their impressive singing of a selection of well-known Christmas carols. The President also thanked those Rotarians who had braved two bitterly cold and windy days the previous week to support the charity collection from shoppers at the busy Asda superstore. He said their efforts had resulted in the excellent sum of more than £435 being raised in aid of the Ty Gobaith children’s charity. In wishing all present a most healthy and enjoyable Christmas and New Year, he said the next full meeting of the club would resume on Tuesday January 9.
