The first round of the Youth Speaks competition was held at the Rhyl 6th. form college yesterday evening. The event was well attended by both Rotarians from the Rhyl club together with pupils and teachers. There were three judges, Gareth Wynne Jones, D K (Keith) Roberts and Mike Howarth together with Gareth Davies as timekeeper and Gordon Marshall as question master. The event was organised by Rtn. Howard Ferdinando, so a special thanks to him for that! The first round was competed by intermediate students aged 11 to 13 followed by the seniors aged 14 to 17. The very high standard set by both sets of teams, speaking on a variety of interesting and challenging subjects made the judge's jobs very difficult, but after much deliberation it was decided that the winning teams were: Intermediate, Team 2 (Rhyl High School) and for the Seniors, Team 1 from Rhyl 6th. form college. Both theses teams now go forward to represent Rhyl in the District Final on 3rd. March in Wrexham. Good luck to both teams!
