Hope and Homes Report
Report by Rotarian Rod Brocklehurst, immediate past chairman of the International Committe
International Committee
‘Hope and Homes for Children’ was set up in1994 after Mark Cook, who had served as as Commander of the British Contingent of the UN Protection Force in the former Yugoslavia, and his wife Caroline, visited a shelled out children’s institution in Bosnia and saw the appalling conditions in which the children and babies existed.
‘ Hope and Homes for Children’ now works together with children, their families, communities, professionals, NGOs and governments across Central and Eastern Europe and Africa to ensure that institutionalisation is a thing of the past, and that no child has to grow up deprived of the love and care of a family.
The Rotary Club of Rhyl has supported this charity in the past and this year decided to use the proceeds of the Plant Fair, together with some of the money raised by the annual Frugal Meal, to send a donation of£500.
One of the features of this charity is that one receives a handwritten note on their letter of thanks: “...........Your generous donation will ensure this work can continue and we can support more vulnerable children and their families...........”
