Satellite Club Jan13

A call for the Rotary Club of Rhyl not to be content with the membership it has now but to look to set up the first satellite club on the North Wales coast to help ensure its future was made by visiting Assistant District Governor Beryl Cotton at the weekly meeting at Faenol Fawr.
After congratulating the oldest club in North Wales on approaching its 90th anniversary next year with a long and proud record of achievements to its name, she pledged her enthusiastic support for any efforts to bring in new members as a top priority.
"I would like nothing more than to see Rhyl again take the lead in forming a satellite club and I can guarantee my whole-hearted backing and help," she stressed.
Earlier past President Howard Ferdinando had reported that efforts in this direction were continuing positively, strongly focused on the nearby Glan Clwyd District Hospital.
"We have identified the great potential that presents itself for such a club to be formed at Glan Clwyd and this objective is being vigorously pursued," he added.
The Assistant District Governor told President Tony Thomas that this was excellent news and something she would follow closely while also being greatly impressed on hearing the various activities already in the pipeline for the coming twelve months.
Committee chairmen Andrew Brown, Hari Hughes, Rod Brocklehurst, Gareth Davies and Les Rees had all announced details of numerous events and plans, including providing free holidays for elderly gents, a young writers' competition centred on local primary schools, charitable collections to relieve stricken victims of national catastrophes, a senior citizens' outing and party and a host of social activities ranging from an indoor race night to a Scalextric competition and full-day trip to the Bangor-on-Dee races.
President Tony warmly thanked the Assistant Governor for her attendance and encouraging remarks and for all the considerable help and advice she had always readily provided to him, showing most clearly just how much Rotary meant to her.
Meanwhile, Rhyl will be looking for further success when they visit Ruthin club in the third round of the Rotary District Quiz on Wednesday February 4 when a strong contingent of Rhyl members is expected to support their team.
