As the Rotary year drew to a close, the Rotary Club of South Queensferry recognised local people whose dedication, inspiration and hard work had benefited the community over this difficult year. On Monday 21st June, at Hawthornbank, recipients met to receive their awards from president Irene and their nominators. Alistair Pryde of Words and Pictures was on hand to take photographs.
CAROLINE GALLAGHER, MELISSA HART, NICOLA GOURLAY and YASMINE WONG 'PHONE BOX FAIRIES'
received awards for adopting disused local phone boxes as temporary Covid Community Support Facilities for donating and exchanging items such as toys, books and food. Yasmine could not be there on the day.
ALLAN DRAIN
was recognised for his long-term support of 21st Craigalmond (South Queensferry) Scout Group, fundraising for the new Scout Hall and acting as voluntary caretaker of the hall and garden.
ANNE MITCHELL
received her award for organising a wide range of programmes to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of the community as convenor of Queensferry & District Community Council Health & Wellbeing Committee.
DIANE JOB
was awarded for dedicated service as Treasurer and Planning Convenor of Queensferry & District Community Council.
MARY GIBLETT
was recognised for outstanding service as Chair of the Rosebery Hall Community Centre Association, providing facilities and support for numerous community groups.
GEOFF CROWE
and the 21cc GROUP
received an award for voluntary snow clearing and vehicle recovery in North Queensferry and Kirkliston, providing transport to Covid Vaccination Centres and assisting NHS staff and carers to get to work. Colleagues Nick Barrass and Emma McIntyre from the 21cc Group accompanied Geoff to the presentation.
Ed Kelly nominated Allan Drain. Gerald Smith nominated Geoff Crowe and the 21cc Group. All other recipients were nominated by Neil McKinlay.
