Ian and Margaret Trevette are two Llandudno Rotary Club members who have been visiting South Africa for many years and have come to love the country. Ian gave a talk to 16 Rotarians and partners on Tuesday 18th July about their experiences there, focusing on their work with the Rotary Club of Sea Point, in Capetown.
For many years this Rotary Club has established and developed Ilitha, a pre-school facility in Khayelitsha , one of the poorest townships in Cape Town. The latest expansion of Ilitha due to open in January 2018 (the summer start of the South African school year), will now provide places for up to 75 children aged 2 to 6.
As well as education, a place at Ilitha pre-school provides the child with safety, love, guidance and nourishment and parents greatly value the facility .
In recent years, Llandudno Rotary has been able to give financial support to the venture and, via reports from Ian and Margaret, be assured of how the Club’s contribution is spent and appreciated. The Club will continue this valued link.
