Crocuses bloom for Purple4Polio

Why did Llandudno Rotarians, and other kind supporters, plant 15,000 purple crocuses across Llandudno and beyond last Autumn?  To raise awareness of the ongoing campaign run by Rotary since 1985 to eradicate polio from the planet - a task almost complete...with just three countries in the world not yet quite free from the disease.

Purple is the colour of the dye used on a child's finger to denote that they have been vaccinated against polio, and so painting the town purple seemed just the right thing to do!

Our picture shows a small part of the crocus field in Craig y Don park.  Other plantings took place in three Llandudno primary schools and at Rowen.
