On Tuesday 26th January President Alan Guinn welcomed the members and a
guest, Denis Murphy from the Rotary Club of Congleton. Past President Colin
Lovell was the evening's speaker. The topic 'A Man With 2 Hearts' was a
synopsis of Frank Sinatra.
Born into a Sicilian catholic family, his mother Dolly was the dominant
factor in the development of her son's personality traits and extraordinary
self-confidence.
Throughout his life, he had bouts of depression, and attempted suicide.
Often resorting to violence, he hated the press and was very much a control
freak.
There are 2 sides to a coin however and Sinatra was known for his immense
generosity, particularly after his comeback from his career slump..
Sinatra had high level connections with the 'mob' and once commented that if
it had not been for his interest in music he would "probably have ended in a
life of crime".
His political allegiance changed has he got older, originally a Democrat,
he supported Ronald Regan and Richard Nixon during their Presidential
campaigns
