Llandudno Rotary President Unveils Vision for Centenary
Year
Press Release 9 June 2026
President Sarah Lesiter-burgess (correct spelling) outlined an ambitious programme of community service, health initiatives and youth engagement as Llandudno Rotary prepares to celebrate its centenary year.

Addressing members at the start of her second year as President, Sarah reflected on the club's achievements and thanked fellow Rotarians, Friends of Rotary, volunteers and family members for their support throughout her first year in office.
A major focus for the coming year will be the club's expanding defibrillator programme. Sarah described the project as particularly close to her heart, explaining how personal experiences of losing young friends and seeing the impact of cardiac arrest had inspired her commitment to improving access to lifesaving equipment within local communities. She announced the defibrillator project will be her chosen charity focus for the
year ahead, building on successful work already undertaken by the club.

The club will continue to support the Bob Mills Award, provide volunteering opportunities for sixth-form students for their Welsh Baccalaureate qualification, and explore Rotary Youth Leadership opportunities with students from Ysgol Aberconwy.

Meanwhile, local community groups are invited to apply for funding from the club's Community Chest, with applications closing on 31 July.

As the club approaches its 100th anniversary, preparations are underway for a special Centenary Charter Night, scheduled to take place at Coleg Llandrillo on 12 March 2027. The event will celebrate a century of Rotary service in the community while supporting local young people through the college's catering
programme.

Sarah also outlined plans for a new Christmas opportunity for residents to remember loved ones during the festive season while raising funds for community causes. The project is expected to be developed in partnership with neighbouring Rotary clubs and supported by additional festive fundraising activities.

Health and wellbeing will feature prominently throughout the year, with the club planning awareness initiatives focused on prostate cancer screening and cervical cancer prevention. The campaigns will seek to encourage early testing and help remove barriers that can prevent people from accessing potentially life-saving
health checks.

"As we celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Llandudno, we have an opportunity to honour our past while continuing to serve our community for generations to come"  she said

"By working together, we can make a lasting difference to the lives of people across our community"
