Rotary Young Leaders Award (RYLA)

Rotary Young Leaders Award (RYLA) is a major Rotary project to give young people a chance to improve their leadership skills, communication skills and to work in a team situation.  Each year, about 35 young people from 16 to 18 years of age are sponsored by Rotary clubs from all over District 1180 to spend five days at the outdoor education centre at Arthog near Dolgellau. Here they have an intensive training programme to help to develop the skills mentioned above but at the same time have a great deal of fun.

This club has sponsored a young person each year for about five years and this year Joe Turner, a student in Year 13 at Denbigh High School, was the successful candidate. Joe  gave us a presentation about his week in  Arthog and described all the activities with the help of photographs. He  said how much he had enjoyed the week and that he had gained greatly from the experience.  One thing, he said, that he could not have done before going on the course was to talk to a group such as ours!
