The First Months of the Rotary Club of Denbigh
The first moves to establish a Rotary Club in Denbigh took place on Thursday October 6th 1927 when nine prominent citizens of the town met at Bodawen Chapel, Post Office Lane Denbigh. They met with Rev. A. J. Costain MA and Mr. Wood who were the president and secretary of the recently chartered Rotary Club of Colwyn Bay. The objects and progress of the Rotary movement were explained to the gathering and it inspired them to make the decision to call another meeting to consider the advisability of founding a club in Denbigh. The nine were John Robert Owen, (grocer), who was elected chairman for the evening, Sydney Watkins, (solicitor), David Webbe Davies (pottery), Moses Evan Morris, (sanitary inspector), John Henry Mills, (proprietor of a pottery shop), W. A. Evans M Sc, (head master of Denbigh Grammar School), I. Morris Jones, (licensed victualler), H. Llewelyn Jones (Plas Coch, veterinary) and Sam Jones (W. H. Smith & Son). An apology was received from Dr. Lloyd Hughes.
The second meeting took place on Tuesday November 22nd 1927.
