The Rotary Young Chef of the Year Award was made to the menu devised by David Bee of Ysgol Brynrefail winner in June 2005. The Award was made for devising a menu for two at a total cost for the ingredients of £10.
A special award for his sweet was given to Ifon Pennant Williams, and the Hygiene award was made to Rebecca Thomas from Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle. The overall sweet prize went to Gwenno Jones from Ysgol Brynrefail Llanrug.
Emma Thomas from Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle was given the main dish award for her parcel of Welsh Lamb and was told that the recipe would go on the menu at the Bull Inn Beaumaris for the diners and the dish would be named after her. Praise indeed from Judge Keith Rothwell, the owner.
The other judges were Rowan Clark and Gerallt Williams, two of the Chefs, who teach at Coleg Menai. The adjudicator was Hospitality Catering & Tourism Programme Manager at Coleg Menai and Rotarian Frances Davies.
Vocational Chairman, presented the Awards on behalf of Rotary. He told the Chefs and their teachers that the Young Chef Awards are made by the The Rotary Club of Bangor, with the aid of Coleg Menai aims to encourage young people to take up a Chef vocation and to attain high standards in what they do.
Schools will be invited to take part in a new competition, which will be held this year in June 2006 contact Vocational Chairman Bob Maskall or Rotarian Frances Davies at the Hospality Unit Coleg Menai.
