International and Foundation

Rotary connects people and communities across the world.

Through Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation, Rotary Clubs support projects that improve lives, strengthen communities and respond to some of the most pressing challenges facing people around the globe.

Abergele Rotary is proud to play its part in that work.

The Rotary Foundation

The Rotary Foundation is Rotary International’s charitable foundation. It supports projects in areas including:

• promoting peace

• fighting disease

• providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene

• supporting mothers and children

• improving education and literacy

• developing local economies

• protecting the environment

One of Rotary’s best-known international commitments is the global effort to eradicate polio through the End Polio Now campaign.

Our international work

Over the years, Abergele Rotary has supported a number of international causes and humanitarian appeals.

Our Club has raised funds for ShelterBox, helping provide emergency shelter and essential supplies to people affected by disasters around the world.

We have also collected in support of Disasters Emergency Committee appeals, responding to major humanitarian emergencies when communities have urgently needed help.

One important part of our Club’s history has also been our support for Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline, which helped children affected by the legacy of the Chernobyl disaster and supported families in Belarus and Ukraine.

Abergele Rotary helped provide vitamins and other essential support for children visiting North Wales for recuperative breaks, as well as for children who were unable to travel because of serious illness.

Working together across the world

Rotary Clubs are part of an international network, giving us opportunities to work alongside other Clubs, support humanitarian projects and contribute to programmes funded through The Rotary Foundation.

Whether responding to an emergency, supporting a long-term project or contributing to Rotary’s global programmes, our aim is simple: to help where help is needed.
