David Walker, the regional fundraiser for Poppy Scotland, was the speaker at tonight's meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw.
David informed members that Rotary Clubs from the West of Scotland had raised over £100,000 for the Poppy appeal.
The Scottish Poppy Appeal is Scotland’s largest fundraising campaign and takes place annually in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday in November. The money raised during the Scottish Poppy Appeal is used to provide vital life-changing support to the Armed Forces community in Scotland.
Donations help provide vital support for service families, veterans and those currently serving.
This support, in recognition of their sacrifices and service, is holistic and bespoke. They have helped countless men, women and families with issues linked to their time in the Armed Forces or with struggles adjusting from military to civilian life.
The charity even helps with needs that arise long after someone has left the Armed Forces. Whenever, wherever support is needed, Poppy Scotland are there.
David said that three million poppies are distributed across Scotland by 10,000 volunteers who carry out collections on high streets, in supermarkets and other venues as well as ensuring that poppies and tins are displayed in shops, businesses and schools.
The volunteers are the lifeblood of the Scottish Poppy Appeal and he thanked, in particular, Past President, Charles Keeper who stepped, late in the day, to organise the poppy collections for Bellshill.
After David had answered a number of questions, John McDonald proposed the vote of thanks.'What We Do' Main Pages:
