Tonight, the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw hosted the Presidents and members of the Rotary Clubs of Rutherglen and Hamilton at the Bentley Hotel for the annual visit of our District Governor.
This is the first visit from a District Governor of District 1320 which was created by the coming together of Rotary Districts 1020 and 1230 to form a new District to be known as Scotland South.
The first District Governor of this our new district is Narek Bido, a member of the Falkirk Rotary and Chief Executive Officer of Recovery Scotland.
In his address, Narek said that Rotary is not just an organisation, but a vibrant movement that is built upon the foundation of fellowship, service and ethical leadership and it continues to be a beacon of hope around the world. A global network of dedicated individuals from diverse backgrounds, united by the common goal of creating lasting change in our communities and beyond.
Narek is immensely proud of the incredible work that Districts 1020 & 1230 have accomplished, in the past, to uphold Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self" and he is greatly enthused by the birth of the new District 1320.
As he steps into the position of the District Governor for 2023 -24, he is filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve alongside many dedicated Rotarians who are committed to making a positive difference in our communities. Throughout his term, he will be determined to establish an environment that fosters unity, promotes wellbeing and encourages collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation. He believes that by harnessing the diverse talents, skills, and perspectives of our members, we can achieve remarkable feats and impact countless lives.
Narek said that our District is home to a vibrant and dynamic community of Rotarians who are engaged in a wide range of projects and initiatives, from supporting local schools and healthcare facilities to empowering youth and promoting sustainable development. He told us that our collective efforts have a transformative effect on those we serve and he is sure that we will continue to strengthen our communities and build a brighter future for generations to come.
Together, we have the power to transform lives, uplift communities, and foster peace and understanding across borders.
