President Callan Dick introduced Mel McPherson as the guest speaker at last Thursday's meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw.
Mel started by giving members a short insight into her family. Her parents had problems with drink addiction and her brother, who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at age 14, took to drugs.
Mel set up "My Support Day", a charity based within South Lanarkshire which supports families, and loved ones, who have been affected by someone else’s substance use. The support is person centred and individuals are supported on a 1:1 basis, both face to face and online.
My Support Day are provision holders and distributors of Naloxone. The charity is also in partnership with Liber8 to deliver the service FREE – Family Recovery Everyone Everywhere. This service is based across South Lanarkshire to access one-to-one support, group support, learning and development and events for the whole family. In addition, this service will also offer counselling, mediation and therapeutic services to individuals giving a service which can be tailor the support to suit their needs.
Mel then answered a number of questions put to her and Tom McPherson proposed a fulsome vote of thanks.
Rotarian Jean Murray updated members re the Rotary Wrap Up project and members are asked to be at Hamilton Accies for 10am on Monday to sort out the winter clothing already collected and distribute boxes to the agencies involved.'What We Do' Main Pages:
