Tonight, Katrina Gibbons opened her first virtual meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw as our new President for session 2020/21.
Jo Pawley, the Immediate Past District Governor of District 1020, was present as one of our guests, but, unbeknown to members, she was here to present a Paul Harris Fellowship to another of the guests, Lorna Dick, the wife of club member Callan Dick, and active member of the Inner Wheel Club of Larkhall. Lorna was given the highest award that Rotary can make to an individual for her work, over the years, for Rotary at District level. For the first time ever, Lorna was speechless but, later, she thanked Jo for the prestigious award she had received.
Our speaker was the Club's newest member, David Crichton, who gave us his own "This is Your Life" presentation. David, who is married to Karen and has two sons and a daughter, is a life-long supporter of Motherwell FC, a member of Carluke Golf Club and a keen cyclist. After leaving Garrion Academy, he studied electrical engineering (hating every minute), and, after graduation, he entered the world of financial services spending the next thirty years working for various financial institutions before setting up his own Independent Financial Advisor company which he sold in 2015. David is now a consultant with a Waste and Recycling firm ACM Environmental Champions which he enjoys tremendously.
David is looking forward to being actively involved in the work of Rotary over the years to come.
Pres. Katrina thanked David for his excellent introduction.
