In another first for the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw tonight, our Annual Handover Dinner became an online Handover courtesy of Zoom.

The outgoing President, Andrew Murray, invited the incoming President, Katrina Gibbons, to don the Presidential Chain of Office and, in turn, Katrina introduced her new Office Bearers and Conveners.

Celebrations continued with a Whisky Tasting, hosted by Paul Main. Members had already received their samples and we had an excellent evening with Paul speaking, very knowledgeably, on the characteristics of each whisky, the distilling process and the wider whisky industry.

We enjoyed drams from Orkney distillery, Highland Park, a, non-age declared malt, called Harald. Then Black Bottle, a blended whisky, before sampling a Lagavulin 16yo from Islay. Next was a single cask Talisker 6yo from Skye, privately bottled by Hepburn’s Choice. We then moved on to Campbeltown to enjoy a 15yo malt, Glen Scotia, and, closing our evening, we had a, cask strength, Glenfarclas 105, at 60% abv.

Each drink was preceded by a toast given by our Rotarians Andrew Murray, John McGeary, Tom Sleith, Ian Carrol, Peter McCrossan and Charles Keeper. During the Tasting, Paul encouraged the Members and guests to ask questions and, indeed, there were several interesting points raised.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by our new Senior Vice President, Charles Keeper, and those present showed their appreciation in the usual manner. A fitting end to an excellent evening.
