There is no better way to pay tribute to PHF Jim Robertson that to record the
Paul Harris Fellowship Citation for P.P. Jim Robertson – by Tom McPherson
Principal Officer Wong, Presidents Arthur and Andrew, guests, Rotarians, including, of course, our friends from Hamilton.
Through our work in Rotary, we often have the opportunity to recognise, encourage and support individuals and organisations in our communities and as we do, we can, as a previous theme proclaimed, make a difference. But just now and again we turn our attention inwardly and consider the contributions that Rotarians have made. Tonight, we are taking such an opportunity to recognise the outstanding service that one of our members has made during his thirty-five years of membership.
Not only has Jim Robertson served this Club as President, but he also served in the much more onerous role as Treasurer, but much more than that, he has encouraged and supported all of our events and projects and over the years, his regular attendance at our weekly meeting is remarkable in fact it is second to none. And if you don’t believe me you can always ask our attendance officer (Tom himself!).
If I may, I’ll highlight two events for which Jim was responsible. Namely, organising our first Gala Dinner, some 25 years ago, and, of course, that has set the standard for all the subsequent ones. But, a much more challenging task, must have been the District Conference that he organised for 1200 delegates in John Mair’s year as District Governor, an event that is still spoken off in glowing terms by those who attended.
In Rotary, we recognise outstanding service through the Paul Harris Award, and I have great pleasure in commending to this Club, that Jim Robertson is a very worthy recipient of that award.
