Visit to the Glasgow Gurdwara

Members will visit the Glasgow Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) for a tour of the facilities given by one of the Glasgow Gurdwara Ambassadors
19 members of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw visited the Glasgow Gurdwara last Tuesday evening. The Gurdwara is one of four Sikh temples, serving the community in Glasgow and the wider area, by promoting faith and cultural services, free culture based education services, a free kitchen and political engagement activities.
The new building was opened in April 2013, at a cost of £3.8 million all of which was raised by the community. All running costs of the temple and the facilities offered are, once again, covered by funds raised within the Sikh community.
The tours of the Gurdwara are approximately 45 minutes. Groups of all sizes are welcome.
Our tour included:
An introduction to what happens at the Gurdwara on a day-to-day basis.
Following this introduction, we were led upstairs where we visited the Darbar Hall (prayer hall)
We then moved on to one of the rooms in the Educational Suite where our tour guide provided information on the Guru Granth Sahib and the role that the Holy Scriptures play in the Sikh faith and answered various questions posed by the members
We were then led downstairs to the Langar Hall where another Ambassador gave us information on various Sikh martyrs over the ages
This is where the tour concluded and we were invited to share in a freshly cooked Sikh meal containing a number of vegetarian dishes, a superb conclusion.
