After many years of supporting the CF Trust organise the Callander Cycle Challenge the club has stepped up its support by taking on the overall organisation of the event. This increased involvement includes extending access to the event to a number of charities Rotary has had involvement with in the past and indeed to any participant looking for an event to raise funds for their chosen charity
Anyone wanting to raise funds for their charity can register and take part.
The Callander Cycle Challenge has been set up with a choice of routes ranging from a fun, family cycle event up to a serious cycling challenge. The event allows participants to raise much needed funds for a charity of their choosing.
Start and finish point is Callander, a beautiful bustling tourist town situated on the River Teith, near Stirling, often described as the gateway to the Highlands.
Route 1 - Callander to Strathyre and back - 14 miles
Route 2 - Callander to Balquhidder and back - 28 miles
Route 3 - Callander to Killin and back - about 50 miles
Most of the routes are off road, or along quiet back roads in this beautiful part of Scotland. Check in takes place in the Callander car park, opposite the Dreadnaught Hotel, and further start details will be issued after registration is complete
Individuals, groups and families are welcome
Full details can be found at on www.callandercyclechallenge.org.uk
On the Saturday 30th April, the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw held its first annual Calendar Cycle Challenge. As can be seen below, 109 participants turned out to cycle the three routes from Callander to Strathyre, Balquhidder or Killin. Over £20,000 was raised for seventeen named charities, with two of the riders still undecided as to where there contributions will be going. The day was excellent for cycling being both cool and sunny, and, in addition, the surrounding mountains were still snow topped.
Our thanks to the thirteen Rotarians, many accompanied by members of their family, who assisted with the organisation on the day. Planning is already under way for next year's Challenge.
