A Rotary Club in Maidstone has been serving our community for over 100 years. Founded in April 1922 at a dinner at the Royal Star Hotel, the club grew from Rotary’s beginnings in 1905 and took 17 years to reach the town.
Our biggest fundraising happens at Christmas. We’ve run Charity Christmas Car Parks and now host Santa’s Grotto in Maidstone Museum with Maidstone Borough Council. The money raised is mainly shared with Maidstone charities each January. We also lend a hand to other causes by providing marshals, parking helpers and event support. One such organisation has been the Royal British Legion with the anual Poppy appeal, we have distributed poppy boxes to all schools in the Maidstone Borough and many supportive shops and businesses. We also man the poppy stalls at Morrisons and Tesco Grove Green over this period to help raise even more for this marvelous national charity.
Rotary is more than fundraising. It’s friendship, fun and shared purpose. Many of our fortnightly Friday meetings welcome a guest speaker—these have included a snail farmer, a former Tiller Girl and the Police Commissioner—and the club has even been filmed by the BBC.
Beyond meetings, members enjoy trips and visits, from a Mosel tour to behind‑the‑scenes looks at a nuclear power station, Hastings Lifeboat Station, a new local school, and a ride on a vintage London bus to a country cream tea.
Rotary offers chances to serve and to connect. Curious about joining? Give us a try.
