About us

The Rotary Club of Gt Yarmouth was formed in 1925.  Since 1956 we have been twinned with the Rotary Club of Rambouillet(France) with whom we meet in alternate countries once a year.

Presently we are 14 men and women members, 1 honorary members . We have fun, fellowship and friendship in providing service both to local and internationally to good causes.

We are part of Rotary International (RI), a worldwide service organisation of 35,000 clubs and more than 1.2 million members in 170 countries. Where ever you are in the world you are never far from a Rotary club. RI has its own charity, the Rotary Foundation, which provides grants to support the charitable activities of our clubs. RI is also leading a programme to eradicate polio world wide together with the World Health Organisation and with the help of Bill and Melinda Gates (Microsoft). This programme has nearly been achieved.

We raise funds for local and international charities, including the Rotary Foundation and disaster relief organisations including paying for schooling in Africa for 4 children. We also contribute to the LendwithCare scheme.

We arrange local events for the benefit of the community, for example:

  • helping literacy in schools by supplying 'Dictionaries-4-Life' books to primary school 3 pupils as some of the children have no books at home.
  • helping organising a 'Crucial Crew' day in conjunction with the Fire Servce, Police and other organisations. This iniative helps children from various schools in the area look after themselves by making them aware of the various dangers in the outside world.
  • Supporting the 'Rotary Youth Leaders Award'- RYLA - by sending young people between 18-26 on a week's leadership course. We have seen what a dramatic effect this has on a person's confidence.
  • By supporting the local YMCA Gt Yarmouth young persons project to provide help the young persons who have no family.

We do all this whilst having fun and friendship, have a twice monthly lunch to discuss these matters and hear from speakers on various topics. At other times we meet on Zoom. If you cannot make it each week, contribute in other ways by helping out at events for example.

We welcome new members. If you want to know more about Rotary, speak to any of our members or contact us via the link on this site.

We look foreward to hearing from you
