Jazz in the Garden

Rotary Club of Billericay Matflower's garden event was well supported by members of our club. A very enjoyable social event amongst friends.

And All that Jazz ....

President-elect Roger Kettle reports on the very successful “Jazz in the Garden” held this month.

"On Sunday June 12, twelve of us from our Club (Brian & Julia Wellman, Steve & Mary King, Peter & Christabel Strong, Robert & Rose Godfrey, Mike & Sue Ginn, and Roger & Sarah Kettle) went to the Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower’s annual “Jazz in the Garden” Barbeque.  This annual event is held in the lovely large garden of Gary and Jane Moore in Little Burstead.  The garden had to be large to accommodate the excellent 18-piece Nick Boland Band and everyone who came to enjoy the music and BBQ, all for a very reasonable price of £20 per person.

Sunny Weather Sunny Dispositions

The weather, such a key element to any outdoor event, was uninterrupted sunshine with everyone making use of the shade provided by the multitude of Gazebos provided by the Club, and of course, the garden trees.

Although termed a Jazz Band, the versatile musicians played a wide selection of mainstream popular tunes enhanced by a very good female singer. I think some of the guests might have been tempted to dance but it was unfortunately far too hot, so everyone just enjoyed sitting back enjoying the music and the excellent BBQ.

A Deserved Result

The event was held to raise money for various charities supported by Rotary and apart from the ticket price, the Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower held a raffle that had so many prizes, that despite the number of people attending, you felt unlucky not win something.

In summary a very well organised and enjoyable event, excellent music and BBQ, supplemented by good weather and, I understand the deserved achievement of over £2000 raised for charity."
