It’s The Taking Part ...

Our sporting Prowess !?

Secretary Brian Wellman reports that District 1240 has been running sports competitions for many many years, but our club has not participated for at least 10 years.  So at his initiative, this year was to be different.  It seemed like a good idea at the time.

On December 19, 2022, Roger, Patrick, Les & Brian set off for Epping to meet with our hosts - Epping Rotary Club.  However getting out of Billericay was a challenge owing to traffic and road works on Stock Road.  We phoned ahead that we might be delayed - - not to worry said Epping, more time for us to practice!!!

Despite our concerns, we arrived 5 mins early.   Well done speedy Gonzalez Kettle!

Pub very busy, met our opponents, had a couple of practice throws and realized the Oche was 7ft 6 inches from the board - “Oh dear”.

Game 1 - Brian v Graham, neither could finish on a double, so nearest the Bull! Graham threw first, a terrible dart, victory thought Brian and then threw an even worst arrow!  Regretfully this seemed to set the pattern for the evening and after four singles, Billericay had lost!

Didn't Get The Rub Of The Green

We did play two sets of doubles, but again failed to secure a win.  Now this result may seem pathetic, Billericay, but to be fair, Epping were not much better on the night.  We just didn’t get the rub of green.

On a positive note it was a fun evening, with good rotary company with the highlight of sausages and chips provided by our opponents.

It remains to be seen if we should enter next year.

Why not? Harwich and Dovercourt is a venue to be desired.
