One hundred years of Rotary in Wakefield
On 3rd June 1921 George Foster who owned a grocer’s store in the Bull Ring, Wakefield, strode across the doorway of the nearby Strafford Arms, then a hotel, and as the president of the Rotary Club of Wakefield opened its inaugural meeting. Today a Blue Plaque hangs on its wall proudly commemorating the event. As a twist, the plaque was mounted by George’s two grandsons Richard and John Foster who run a building firm in Wakefield.
