Rotary Star Awards presented to Port St Mary schoolchildren - July 2020

Rotary Star Awards were presented to schoolchildren who have made a special contribution to their school and community. The Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann has awarded pupils at Scoill Phurt le Moirrey in Port St Mary.

The award of Rotary Star certificates, badges and book tokens goes to pupils who in the view of their teachers have been exceptionally good citizens by putting others before themselves, caring for others, working hard and being courteous.

As such, the Rotary Stars Award offers an opportunity to recognise those who make a valuable positive contribution to their classmates and family. It encourages people to think more about how they can help others in their community.
This year’s recipients are recognised for their positive and enthusiastic attitudes, their willingness to help and inspire others and their caring and supportive natures. This is the first time Rotary Stars have been awarded in the island, but the Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann intends to roll out the award to other schools.

Club President, Roger Barrs, said “We are delighted that Scoill Phurt le Moirrey has agreed to participate in the Rotary Stars scheme, which we believe is an important way of encouraging the Rotary principles of “service above self” within the broader community. All these children represent excellent role models for their friends and classmates.”

Ange Callaghan, Headmistress commented: “We were delighted to be approached by the Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann and to be the first recipients of the Rotary Stars Awards. At Scoill Phurt le Moirrey our school values represent confidence, respect, enthusiasm, love of learning and happiness. The awards complement the ethos and values within our school community and I’m sure will be very well received by our pupils and their families. Thank you.
