Buster goes to Ninfield

Rotary supports Busters Book Club.

On Friday 15th February Buster put in an appearance at Ninfield CofE Primary School’s end of term prize giving, much to the delight and amusement of all the children in the school.

The event was the official launch of Busters Book Club which is being run by the children’s charity champion, Kent & Medway (KM) Charity Team.

Busters Book Club is a reading reward scheme using various challenges to excite and encourage children to read more.  It provides all sorts of aids such as badges, wall charts to monitor progress, newsletters and a whole lot more besides.  According to independent testimonials, Busters Book Club transformed children’s attitudes to reading and definitely enhances children’s reading skills.

Kay Devine, School Project Co-Ordinator for the KM Charity Team, who addressed the assembled children and handed out prizes, said, “I’m really pleased how well the children at Ninfield have taken to Busters Book Club.  It was certainly worth the journey from Whitstable where I live to see the joy on the children’s faces, especially when Buster entered the room!”

Lorna Watson, English Co-Ordinator for the school at Ninfield, added with a huge smile, “We are most grateful to Bexhill Rotary Club for providing the funds so that Busters Book Club can be introduced to the children in the school.  They absolutely love it and it’s making a big difference.”

Bexhill Rotary Club was represented by President Graham Forster and Past President Roger Batey, who is the contact with the KM Charity Team and the school.  Also present was the Reverend Paul Frostick who is not only the local vicar and governor at the school but also Assistant District Governor for Rotary District 1120 which covers Kent and Sussex.

The final word came from Bexhill President Graham Forster who said it had been a great pleasure visiting such a friendly school and he was convinced that Busters Book Club would be a real asset in helping the children’s reading skills.
