District Governor Steve Martin and Assistant District Governor Sherie Soper attend Our Lady and St Oswald's RotaKids Charter

After discussions with Nikki O’Dwyer, the Head Teacher of Our Lady and St Oswald RC Primary School, and a presentation about RotaKids to a whole school assembly on Monday 25th June, it was agreed to set up a new RotaKids Club with RotaKid Club Council members from Years 3, 4 and 5 ready to start work from the start of the new academic year in September 2018 with Nikki O’Dwyer as the teacher in charge. It was agreed that their RotaKids Club is the school’s club and that as their partner Rotary club Oswestry will support them as and when they request to help with any of their fundraising events and with attendance at a council meeting in school once a term.

Their RotaKids Club was chartered by District Governor Steve Martin on Thursday 12th July who presented the school with their Charter certificate as well as certificates and wristbands to all the club council members.

Everything was now ready and in place for the start of the new academic year!

The RotaKids held their first council on Monday the 10th September to confirm the council members and plan their first fundraising event.

Their first fundraiser was held on Friday 21st September for ‘Jeans for Genes’ to raise funds to help vulnerable children living with genetic disorders both in UK and internationally. This was the clubs response for world ‘Jeans for Genes Day’ on the 20th September. I am waiting to hear how much they managed to raise for this good cause.

A wonderful start for our new RotaKids Club. Watch this space for news of more of their activities later in the year!
