Purple4Polio

Planting at Rotary Court

Last autumn, club members planted around 1000 purple crocus bulbs at Rotary Court to mark Rotary International's Purple4Polio campaign.

More crocuses were planted at the Dr Tom Badger Memorial at the harbour.

During the last week of February and the first week of March, club members visited our local primary schools to keep pupils informed about the progress being made to eliminate polio worldwide.  It was heartening to report that there were only 37 new cases of polio reported in 2016 - this compares with 350 000 in 1985 when Rotary's campaign started.

The campaign - Purple4Polio - must continue until the figure is reduced to 0 otherwise polio will spread rapidly again leaving many children crippled as happened in the past.
