Englefield 10K Run 2016

On 28th August Reading Abbey Rotary Club with Tadley Runners organised the 7th annual Englefield 10K. There were 337 participants in the 10K run which is the highest number of runners to date. The fastest time on the day was an amazing 37.31 run by David Meacock, Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletic Club and the fastest woman was Natalie Thomas crossing the line at a fast pace of 45.08 mins.  There were 49 runners in the under 15’s and the fastest boy was Richard Sutton at 14.25mins and followed shortly by the fastest girl Eleanor Thompson crossing the line at 17.16mins. The event also saw the second Treasure Hunt taking place. The winning team were the Swainston-Harrison brothers from Mortimer and over £90 being donated by families participating in the hunt.

Reading Abbey Rotary Club extend their thanks to Richard Benyon for allowing the run to take part on the beautiful Englefield estate and to all those runners who took part in the challenging terrain. Without the runners we wouldn’t be able to raise monies for local charities. This year the Rotary Club are raising money for their chosen charity of the year, Reading YMCA. The money donated will be used to purchase equipment for the YMCA’s workshop. Some young people supported by Reading YMCA are not in employment, education or training. This equipment will enable training and support to be given to the young people to gain skills, build their confidence and ability to gain employment.

Paul Webster, President from Reading Abbey said “this has been our most successful run to date, so many runners took part. Our thanks to Richard Benyon for allowing the run on the estate as we wouldn’t be able to do this without their support. It’s been a great day with much needed money being raised to Reading YMCA”

One of the successes from the run has been the high number of participants. There were a lot of runners who registered on the day. The club apologises to those who weren’t awarded a medal on the day as we didn’t anticipate having so many on the day registrations, so have taken the details from those who didn’t receive one and will send them out.
