Stan Bowes District Governor enters 2016 World Tin Bath Championships in Isle of Man

As part of a visit to the Isle of Man, Stan Bowes, the District Governor for Rotary District 1285 will be taking part in the World Tin Bath Championships in Castletown on Saturday 9th July 2016.

Each year the World Tin Bath Championships take place in the Middle  Harbour, Castletown in the Isle of Man. Competitors use the decorated tin baths like small paddle boats. The winner is either the first to cross the finish line of the one who covers the furthest distance before sinking.

In the past, organisers have commented that the appeal of the races are that "People just like to have fun and the spectators come because they like to see people get wet and they linke to see people sink. Its two hours of family fun and slapstick entertainment involving hosue hold tin baths that your granny will have used in front of the fire."

The event has been run since 1971 and all the money raised from this event goes to local charities. The event is run by the Castletown Ale Drinkers Society.

Once again members of the Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann will help on the day with the running of the event.

The world famous Tin Bath Championship, for men and women, attracts over 100 entrants each year. Besides local competitors entrants have travelled from a far as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, USA plus many continental countries.

In 2014, it featured in the Daily Telegraph's top 10 weirdest festivals, ranking alongside Cornwall's Nudefest and Finland's Wife Carrying World Championships.
