Tree of Light 2015 Switch On - 4.30pm Sainsbury's Oswestry

STOP PRESS!

In spite of terrible weather over the weekend, Club members managed to fight the elements and raise the Tree of Light 2015 making it secure for the Switch On last night.

Event organiser Mike Jones cannot remember worse weather in the four years he has been in charge of the event which kept many shoppers inside the store - especially for the Switch On.  However, the collectors stuck to their jobs and the generous Sainsbury's shoppers got the Tree of Light campaign off to a flying start by donating £865!

Get your Christmas season off to a fantastic start! Come along and support the Switch On of this year's Rotary Club of Oswestry 'Tree of Light' outside Sainsbury's store in Oswestry. Starting at 4.30pm, you can once again enjoy traditional carol singing lead by The Coppice Singers to the warm accompaniment of The Ifton Colliery Band, helping to put the crowd into the Christmas spirit before the tree lights are switched on by Mrs Sarah Longville, Executive Head Teacher of The Marches Academy Trust, at 5.00pm.

Over recent years, the 'Tree of Light' has been a very successful event, raising thousands of pounds for local charities whilst allowing donors to make a donation in remembrance of loved ones or a special event. For a minimum amount of £5.00, using the donation form provided, donors can have a light illuminated on the tree, a commemorative card for their home and an entry in the Book of Remembrance at the store.

This year, your generosity will support Hope House Hospice, the Midlands Air Ambulance, the Cricket Federation for People with Disabilities, the North Shropshire Special Olympics, Alzheimers's Society Dementia Cafe (Oswestry) and other Rotary good causes.

Sponsor forms can be obtained from Paperwrite in Church Street and nearer the time from Sainsbury's or download a sponsor form here:

Last year, we were delighted to raise the record amount of £6,500 for 9 charities which was a valuable amount for them all. This year, it is hoped to do even better so your support is needed. Please fill in and return a donation form and donate any loose change you may have if you see a Rotarian with a collecting bucket around Sainsbury's over Christmas.

The Rotary Club of Oswestry is grateful for the support of all our sponsors who make this event possible.
