On Thursday, President Sandy Bannerman welcomed a large contingent of
Rotarians, their wives, wives of past Rotarians and a visitor from Kingston on
Thames, along with a star studded cast of Hawick's most popular singers. After
the usual excellent meal prepared by Phil Coltman and his attentive staff at the
Buccleuch Hotel, the company was entertained by the talented Bernie
Armstrong, whose singing is always a highlight, especially his rendition of "I
like auld Hawick the best", also the evergreen Drew Johnstone, with, amongst
others, a moving "Meda's Song, the inimitable, pitch perfect Joyce Tinlin,
who sang, unaccompanied, the beautiful, " Wail of Flodden", and Pat Sutherland,
excellent as ever with "I like auld Hawick" and others. Recitations were given
by Rotarians Jock Thorburn and Gus Neilson, and Drew and Bernie ended the
evening with Teribus. The singers were all accompanied by Rosalyn Walker on
keyboard, and Vice President Mairhi Trickett gave an enthusiastic vote of thanks
to all the brilliant participants.
Members were reminded that the Club is to hold a coffee morning in Trinity
Church Hall on Saturday 23rd May with proceeds going to the Nepal Earthquake
Appeal, so any members of the public who would like to attend (£2) or simply
make a donation to this appeal, can either come on the day or give their
donation to any Rotarian.
