International Scouting Jamboree at Windsor Great Park
Sunday 3 August - Saturday 8 August 9.30am-5.00pm
Wow, what a week this was!. Over 7000 young Scouts and Guides assembled in the shadow of Windsor Castle to celebrate an international jamboree representing 41 different countries.
ShelterBox was the nominated charity for this event and two volunteers , Chris Chugg and Tony Trowsdale , manned our stand during the week .We also laid on the use of the ShelterBox Obstacle course to help entertain the thousands of Scouts and Guides.
Shelterbox attracted a good deal of attention and the stand was kept busy by visitors to the display who wanted to know everything: About the equipment, the tent , how help is delivered to a disaster area and how best to help ShelterBox.
Many had already completed some fundraising before the event and we received several big donations. Lots of the local groups have asked for further talks and we will be busy in the months ahead visiting Scout, Cub and Guide groups to cement the already positive relationship with the Scout Association. Many of the Scouts from other countries were hearing about Shelterbox for the first time and promised to take the message back home.
Tony and Chris thoroughly enjoyed the week and the support shown by everyone . Chris said “These young people were a credit to their countries and showed so much enthusiasm to help that it can only be a good thing for ShelterBox to be a partner with the Scouts."
