Latest update for Rotary First Response Project
Community Health and First Response Project
We were honoured to be presented with a second Gold Award at the recent Cardiac Smart Awards arranged by the North West Ambulance Service Trust. PDG Kevin Walsh received the award from CEO of the Trust, Derek Cartwright on 2nd December 2016.
As a many will know this Rotary Foundation funded projects has provided life saving equipment for our Mountain Rescue Teams. Lightweight Defibrillators were presented to Mountain and Cave Rescue Teams operating in Lancashire in October 2014. Specialist Cardiac massage equipment Autopulse machines were presented to Mountain Rescue Teams in the Lake District on the 19th December 2014.
35 Community Public Access Defibrillators (CPADS) have been installed in several towns and villages across Cumbria & Lancashire. A Map showing these sites can be seen by clicking here .
During 2016 we held Community Health Melas in two new areas of the
District, Carlisle and Carnforth and a further event is being
considered in Allerdale.
During the presentation of the equipment to the Mountain Rescue teams Rotarians had demonstrations of how easy it is to use one of the public access defibrillators and the benefits the Autopulse machines can provide to casualties. These demonstrations were recorded and short, informative videos produced. They are on PDG Kevin Walsh's Rotary You Tube channel along with some insights into the Community Health Mela. You can find them by clicking here. Why not share them at a Club meeting.

As part of this campaign we have produced a “How To” Guide to help Community Groups install these much needed lifesaving devices. Also available is a form to inform the Ambulance Service of a new installation and a weekly checklist to be used by those hosting the CPAD.
