3.  Flooding in Somerset - Rotary in Action

This information has been received from District 1200 which includes Somerset:

District 1200 Rotarians are proud to be long-term members of the Emergency Voluntary Agencies Group, under the wing of the Civil Contingencies Unit of Somerset County Council, which directs the efforts of volunteers in community crises such as the horrendous flooding affecting villages and farming communities across the Somerset levels and parts of the coastline.

Rotarians have been deployed mainly in making visits to homes and businesses in high risk areas, to provide information and offer reassurance, to take inventory and gauge needs and to report back to the Civil Contingencies Unit.

They have also been offering accommodation for those displaced, sourcing dry animal feed - a big issue now - recovering cars, helping with the shopping and many other little tasks to try to make life just a bit easier for those affected.

District 1200 has set up a Flood Relief Fund to meet needs where hardship and circumstances warrant specific aid.   If your club is in a position to make a donation to the Flood Relief Fund we will be most grateful.

For more information and how to contribute see the District 1200 website

4.  Home Energy Scotland

This message has been received from Jacqueline Mackenzie of Home Energy Scotland :

I write to introduce Home Energy Scotland and to explore the possibility of joint working with Rotary Clubs.
If you have a project with a community centre, group of vulnerable people or similar, HES could help with advice on energy costs and benefits. We can provide a speaker for your club to tell you how your members and communities could benefit from the range of services available locally.

As you are all too well aware, climate change poses a real threat to us all, the damaging effects of carbon dioxide emissions - the main greenhouse gas causing climate change
