This project sets out to provide 15 Under 6 Child Development Centres within 15 different communities in Southern Malawi. The great news is that the Rotary Foundation have given their approval to our Global Grant Application.
This project has been undertaken in partnership with The Rotary Club of Limbe, Blantyre, Malawi and has been progressed alongside the charity Mary’s Meals. Mary’s Meals will undertake the work entailed in delivering the Centres fit for purpose through their contracts developed with suppliers through a competitive process. Mary’s Meals will project manage the many activities involved and will be reporting regularly to Limbe Rotary Club to verify that the work undertaken fits with our action and financial plans.
The project sets out to provide 15 Under 6 Child Development Centres within 15 different communities in Southern Malawi. The Centres will together provide physical and psychological support to over 3,000 of the most deprived children in Malawi. Additionally the programme will deliver basic numeracy and literacy to the children as well as facilitating a feeding programme and providing clean water and sanitary facilities.
The project has a value of over £79,000 ($122,222USD) and this is only possible through the generosity of 28 Clubs from 5 Districts supporting the programme. Club monies amount to over £22,000 and this sum has been matched by a District Grant of the same value.
The main items provided to each Centre comprise:
Centre refurbishment: including
Fuel efficient Cooking Stoves with safety provision to facilitate hot meals and hygiene
The installation of double pit sanitary facilities for children
Education and development resources including
In two communities we will provide clean water through bore-holes
We are grateful for the support we have been given throughout by District Governors and District Officers over the last three years along with the patience of so many Clubs who have provided the bedrock funding necessary for our joint success.
We will provide regular updates as work progresses to improve the lives of so many disadvantaged children in Malawi.
