Vintage Sports Car Club Rally car parking

Sun, Oct 13th 2013 at 10:00 am - 10:00 am

We helped to coordinate car parking for this exciting event at Cwm Whitton near Knighton.

Once again we were invited by the British Vintage Sports-Car Club to marshall and park the spectator cars at the club's "Vintage Welsh Rally" held at Cwm Whitton Farm, between Presteigne and Knighton. This was the fourth year that Knighton & District Rotary have been invited to help and is a major fund-raising event in the Rotary year year we should feel proud that the VSCC have the confidence to leave us to get on with the job.

There was still only one congested entry/exit point to the site for spectators so, as usual there was a delicate balance between the arriving cars, early leavers, pedestrians, track marshalls, event cars and showcase cars all criss crossing the fields. This year the weather was against us and we were working in cold and rain and in a field of very wet mud and large cow-pats. The hill-climbing contestants love it ! BMWs do not  but luckily no one needed to be towed out.

Unfortunately the wet and cold probably put off some spectators so numbers were down on past years but we did still manage to collect a decent amount for local charities. And as always this was a good day to raise people's awareness of what we do by handing out leaflets based on our quarterly news bulletin. You can see an example of such a bulletin at: https://www.rotary-ribi.org/upimages/clubfiles/931//News%20bulletin%20draft%203.2013.doc

Many thanks to everyone who turned out to help, and to those who so willingly contributed to our fund raising efforts.
