Interact Family Bingo Raises Funds for JDRF

Family Bingo Evening in aid of JDRF(Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)


Oswestry School's Interact group organised a Family Bingo Evening in aid of JDRF(Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) on Friday 22nd February.

Those who attended entered into the spirit of the occasion led by Mr Ritchie, Economics and Politics teacher, who 'called' with great professionalism. In addition to winners choosing from the prize table there was an individual cash prize game.

Joshua, youngest brother of Christian Blount-Powell, our Interact Secretary, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in March 2009 at the age of 8. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, life threatening condition which has a life long impact on those diagnosed with it and their families. Caused by a problem with the immune system, it can affect anyone at any age but it normally strikes children and the incidence is increasing by approximately 4% each year and faster in children under five.  It cannot be prevented by adopting a healthy diet, exercising regularly or living a healthy lifestyle and currently there is no cure.

Understandably, JDRF is a cause that is very important to brothers Christian, Elliot and Josh and they have raised money for JDRF through taking part in sponsored events such as a swim, a walk and a triathlon.
