District Governor Judith Diment has been invited to chair the RI Global Polio Advocacy Committee from July 2013

Congratulations to Judith, our incredibly hard-working and talented PDG!

Currently RI UK National Advocacy Adviser for Polio, Judith has now been invited by Past RI President D K Lee to chair the Global Polio Advocacy Committee, taking over in July from Past RI President Carl Wilhelm Stenhammar. President Elect Ron Burton has also invited her to be a Rotary International Representative to the UN and Other Oganisations with particular responsibility for Commonwealth Countries, diplomats in London, and the Commonwealth Secretariat. This role covers all of Rotary's programmes not just polio.

Working with others to End Polio Now

As as part of her UK National Advocacy work, Judith gave a short summary of the Polio programme to guests attending the Kensington Rotary Club's Charity Art Auction on 23 January. The auction of art launched the London Art Biennale 2013 at Chelsea Town Hall, raising nearly £11,000 for the Chelsea Salvation Army and Rotary International's End Polio Now campaign. A truly international event highlighting London's leading role in the contemporary art world show cases the works of 140 artists from 40 countries. Curated by Roberto Gagliardi who also donated most of the ten auction items including original drawings by Andy Warhol and Georgio Armani.
More than three hundred artists, Ambassadors and art collectors gathered at the Town Hall to enjoy the evening.

Tillman Sachs President of Rotary Club of Kensington said "This was a brilliant event in the international spirit of Rotary and I am delighted that the proceeds will help not only children here in Chelsea but will also enable thousands of children abroad to be vaccinated against polio in the coming year. In 2012 there were only 220 polio cases worldwide, the lowest number ever, and we are this close to eradicating it and must keep up the pressure to make it happen. We are most grateful to Roberto for giving us this opportunity."
