Hawick Rotary's President's Night

Fri, Oct 13th 2023 at 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

The annual special night when the Hawick Club welcomes members and friends from other Rotary Clubs to their formal event at Mansfield Park Clubrooms

Friday 13th October saw the highlight of Hawick Rotary's year take place at Mansfield Park Clubrooms. Forty four members and visitors attended President's Night. The evening opened with performances by Act 1 Youth Theatre, before a great meal supplied by Debbie Brown. After this, President Ron Smith reported on the Club's year thus far. The raffle on the night raised £400, divided equally between Act 1 Youth and Mary's Meals, a charity which provides meals at school to 2.5 million children in Africa. Ron presented Debbie Lyons with the cheque for Act 1.

At this point President Ron and the Club's Community & Vocational team leader Mairhi Trickett were taken by surprise to be presented with Rotary International's Paul Harris Fellowship award, which is named for the founder of Rotary and is given to individuals who are considered to have helped to deliver Rotary's ideals of service.

The evening continued with musical items from Debbie, Joyce Tinlin, and David Finnie with accompaniment by Ann Witherington.

The whole evening was considered very successful. Apart from the Hawick members and their guests, visitors came from the Galashiels, Jedburgh, Langholm, Peebles, Selkirk and Borderlands clubs along with James Bruce (from Tranent), Area Governor for the Borders area.
