ROTARY CLUB OF CHESTFIELD

Evening Meeting 18.30pm for 19.00pm Thursday 18th April 2024 @ The Plough

Welcomes:         Pat welcomed everybody to the meeting, and especially all of our guests this evening.  There are no club birthdays this week.

Business:            

Fund Raising:  Pat congratulated Robert on having completed the static bike ride, raising approximately £275.  The aim of the day was to raise a target of £3,000.  Kevin also completed a session.

                The recent Quiz Night raised a profit of just under £1,000.  Pat said that £500 of this will go to the charity AFRID.

                Pat congratulated David M and his band of volunteers for raising a welcome £780 towards our charity fund by means of the recent unit clearance.

International:  Pat reminded members that the TWAM collection is this coming Saturday.

Comm / Voc:  Gardening at the Whit & Tank will be on Saturday week (followed by car parking on Sunday).

DINNER

Speaker:              Bernie Morgan introduced herself as a radio presenter for Academy FM, a radio station in Thanet.  She presents Thanet Islands Sounds (a local version of Desert Islands discs).  She spoke to us about her journey to research, write and publish a novel based on the life and times of her great grand mother Cecilia Chattergee (1873-1947)  whose life unfolded against the events leading up to Indian independence (and the horrors of Partition) in 1947.
