Tonight's speaker at the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw had to call off due to a family illness. Instead, James Gibbons, our Club's Senior Vice President, updated the members on our involvement with lendwithcare.org.

James reminded us that Lend With Care brings together entrepreneurs in low-income countries with the people that have the power, and ability, to help them - people like Rotarians.

It is run by CARE International UK which is one of the world's leading poverty fighting organisations, Lend With Care is a revolutionary way for you to help people to work their way out of poverty with dignity.

The process starts with an idea, from launching a scrap recycling business to diversifying crops and everything in between, entrepreneurs living in low-income countries are bursting with ideas - all they need is a helping hand to get started. They request loans by approaching one of Lend With Care's local development partners. If their plans to invest in their business show promise, their loan is approved and they'll have the go-ahead to get started. Most Lend With Care partners charge interest on loans to help cover the high operational costs associated with reaching low-income customers requiring small loans.

The local partner adds the entrepreneur's profile to the Lend With Care website where potential investors, from different locations across the globe, browse all the opportunities and choose which promising business idea they would like to support.

After an entrepreneur receives their Lend With Care funding, they will get to work starting, or growing, their small business. The entrepreneurs pay back their loans in instalments to local partners, who, in turn, transfer these repayments to CARE International UK who then credit the repayment to the investors Lend With Care account.

James advised members that, since starting to work with Lend With Care, our Club has made 47 loans, helping 134 entrepreneurs and 424 family members.
