£3000 was raised to provide Solar lights see off the tigers that had been attacking villagers in Gurguria in South West Kolkata

Having heard of the mauling (and seen pictures) of several villagers in Gurguria, South West Calcutta, the Club was informed by the local Inner Wheel Club, that lights would keep the animals at bay. In the space of two weeks, just before Christmas, the sum of £3000 was raised from individual donations and by some corporate sponsorship.
Pictured are some of the sponsors who were presented with photographs of ‘their’ lights together with an inset picture of the ‘dedication’ attached to the lamppost. Each lamp charges up in daylight hours and illuminates the village by night, which keeps the tigers at bay!
