Scottish SPCA

Tue, Mar 21st 2023 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Guest speaker will be Sharon Comrie

This week our guest speaker was from the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty of Animals. Sharon Comrie is the charity’s Community Engagement Manager.

Sharon gave a talk illustrated by three well produced videos showing the vast and varied work of the Scottish SPCA. Founded in 1839, the Scottish SPCA proudly fights to improve the life of animals in Scotland.

Last year the charity received 200,000 calls, made 90,000 responses safeguarding animal welfare and preventing cruelty.

They operate 9 rescue centres and a National Wildlife Rescue Centre at Fishcross and an Investigation Unit based in Edinburgh.

The Scottish SPCA receives no government funding but requires £50,000 per day to run the Society.

Having started as a volunteer at the age of 13, Sharron has worked as a Kennel Maid, Regional Manager and Superintendent. Her 50 years of expertise is now used as Community Engagement Manager. The club were very lucky to hear Sharon’s huge story delivered with great passion.
