Alan passes £15k mark

Veteran fundraiser Alan Blake is still going strong in his fundraising efforts

Alan has now passed £15,000

JUST like Ol’ Man River Wye at the bottom of his garden, veteran fundraiser Alan Blake just keeps rolling along.

The 89-year-old has now passed £15,000 in his bid to give a boost to his selected causes Rotary, Parkinson’s and Burghill Parish Church.

Alan, who will be 90 in September, has been completing circuits of his steep riverside garden in Hampton Park Road since late last year.

Each circuit – and he aims to complete two each day - is around 120 steps and overall Alan has now climbed 34,000 steps on his marathon journey.

Starting off locally, Alan, who is a member of City of Hereford Rotary Club, has climbed the equivalent of the Sugar Loaf and the Blorenge before moving on to Cader Idris, Snowdon, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis, The Eiger and the Matterhorn.

Now, inspired by the spirit of the late Captain Sir Tom Moore and happily recovered from a bout of ill health, he’s ascending Mont Blanc before moving on to Mount Everest.
